Self-Care Sunday- How will you celebrate Self-Kindness Day?

Published over 1 year ago • 3 min read

Happy Sunday Reader!

Did you know that today, November 13th is self-kindness day? I bet you don't have that marked on your calendar, but you should add it in! In fact, you should find a day each month or so to celebrate as your own self-kindness day and make that a regular part of your self-care practice. Keep reading to learn more about how you can practice self-kindness!

Self-kindness day should be 365 days a year, not just one single day. You deserve to receive kindness from people in your life and from yourself. The way you treat yourself has the largest impact on your own mental health, so start practicing that self-kindness!

Practicing self-kindness can result in an ability to cope better with stress, lessen the symptoms of depression and anxiety, alongside enhancing immune function and increasing personal motivation. Those are amazing results from some self-kindness!

Self care tip.....

Even if you practiced some self-kindness yesterday, let's do more this week! We can't get enough of those benefits! Here are six ways to practice self-kindness this week:

  1. Say no. It’s ok to skip a gathering, turn down volunteer work, or just say no. Embrace your introvert and say no to spend a restorative night at home.
  2. Reduce your time on social media. The comparison effect and mindless scrolling can have a negative effect on your mental health. Take a break and go outside or spend time with a friend face to face!
  3. Treat yourself! Splurge on a treat or a luxury that you have been wanting for a while. Taking a mini-break or rewarding yourself for your hard work is well deserved.
  4. Try meditation. Self-kindness can be hard to absorb and truly believe. By working through the meditation process and turning it into a habit, you can help the self-kindness be absorbed so you can truly believe just how amazing you are!
  5. Compliment yourself. Turn this into a daily habit even though it feels awkward! Stand in front of the mirror for a moment and say out loud one or two things you love about yourself. Give it a few weeks and see how your perspective changes!
  6. Try something new. Trying something new can give your brain some novelty and excitement in life. If there is a new class at the gym, or an art style you have been wanting to try, now is the time! Sign up and check it out!

Pick one of these, or something else you have been wanting to try and make it happen!

Etsy Find of the week.....

An easy way to show yourself self-kindness is to imagine how you would be kind to someone in a situation, and then give yourself the same kindness. One of my favorite parts about being an Etsy partner is how I can access Etsy shops of people who live around the world. One of my favorite shops is a group of artisans from Haiti who are using Etsy to sell their creations as access to local marketplaces isn't available currently. Here are some of my favorite pieces from them!

Show your change-making heart with this handmade bracelet!

Add some fun to your garden with these brightly colored garden flowers!

Add some fun to your Christmas Tree with this candy cane ornament!

Wear flowers all year long with these fun daisy earrings!

And finally, show your support for all people with this "Love People First" canvas bag!

Upcoming week intention......

Plan two self-kindness activities for yourself over this week. Make an appointment on your calendar to make sure that you don't skip or forget. You are the most important priority this week!

Weekly good news to share.....

Some good news this week to acknowledge Veterans day! A veteran was given a new vehicle to use for his service to disabled veterans and children in his local area! What a special gift that will have a huge impact on the community in Philadelphia!

Featured blog post of the week......

Moving out into your first apartment can be an exciting and expensive endeavor. The kitchen can be an expensive place to start, but you don't have to furnish it all at once. If you or a family member is planning on moving out soon, send them this post about the basics for starting your kitchen.

Take your time, find a few favorite items that you love, and prioritize what is really important to you and you will soon have a kitchen you love!

This is also a great start for a Christmas gift list for anyone in your life who recently moved out! Anything on the list would be so helpful to someone just starting out!

One thing I am loving this week.....

Thanksgiving is just around the corner here! If you are planning a last minute get-together (or just planning last minute!), we are here to help you! I loved the ideas for 9 simple Thanksgiving or fall dinner décor ideas that you can put together at the last minute! Gatherings don't have to be fancy. Put together some amazing people and fabulous food, and the party will take care of its self.

Happy Self-Kindness Day friends!

Katie

Happy Sunday Reader! It finally feels like summer may be just around the corner! Finally! One of my favorite parts of summer is how it feels like everyone is out, about, and mingling. I run into so many people in the summer, that I never see the rest of the year! Loneliness can happen any time of the year, but it can be especially difficult in the summer when it seems like everyone is doing things with other people. Self care tip..... Social media, Zoom, smart phones, and email have left us...
