Happy Sunday Reader!
In the US, today is Mother's day. A holiday started in the US in the early 1900's but has been acknowledged in other parts of the worlds back to the days of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Everyone has a soft spot for their mothers!
Random fact: Did you know that phone calls spike 37% on Mother's day compared to a regular Sunday? Those are a lot of phone calls that mothers really appreciate!
Self care tip.....
Mother's spend much of their time taking care of other people in their family, but mother's need to also include some self-care time into their days. Without self-care, mother's will miss out on the rejuvenating rest that helps feed their soul. Here are some ideas of self-care that any mom can do for themselves this week!
- Do your favorite hobby
- Meet up with a favorite friend
- Read a favorite book
- Break up your routine and find a new coffee shop to enjoy
- Get a massage
- Unplug for a specific period of time
- Go for a walk in a pretty spring place
- Laugh until you have tears in your eyes
- Call or text a friend you haven't talked to in a while
- Plan a vacation
- Visit your favorite coffee shop or cafe for lunch and linger a while
- Cook your favorite meal (or have someone else cook it for you!)
- Plant some spring time flowers
- Take a long shower or bath with no rush, and indulge in your favorite scent or lotions
- Do something just for yourself
- Mediate or pray in silence
- Make it repetitive and join a monthly book club or weekly exercise class
The possibilities are endless, but the key is to do some things that bring you joy and fill up the pool of energy that daily life uses up. You can find more self-care ideas here, and even curate the list into your own personal self-care menu here!
Etsy Find of the week.....
If you have not yet found that perfect gift for your mother, I have a solution! An Etsy gift card is the perfect choice! They even offer e-gift cards so you can have it emailed to her while you are on the phone today.
It is a simple and easy way to give your mother something she can use to pamper herself! And while you are at it, share this email with mothers day self-care ideas so she can relax and destress!
Upcoming week intention......
What is one way you can celebrate or honor your mother or a mother figure in your life this week? Take a moment to make a plan and set that plan into motion!
Weekly good news to share.....
What is the one thing that everyone uses in the hotel when they travel? Any guesses? Well, this is a non-scientific study, but I am guessing it is two things. The TV remote and a bar of soap.
The TV remote is re-usable between guests, but not that bar of soap! It goes straight in the trash. This non-profit has figured out a way to re-use those partially used bars of hotel soap, clean them, and recreate them into fresh soap that is vital to provide hygiene in undeveloped parts of the world.
What an amazing idea! People need soap and people waste a ton of soap when traveling. Put those together and you make magic! Check out this article and feel better about leaving that partially used bar of soap at the hotel the next time you are traveling.
Featured blog post of the week......
If life feels a little out of control this week, check out my post on how to create a life in balance. Now, I recognize that getting a life in balance, to stay in balance will never happen in reality (because life!), but there are some great tips on how to move your current life a little closer to the life you desire.
It is not a magic fix, but small changes over a period of time can take you far in creating the life you are dreaming about!
One thing I am loving this week.....
Mom's have a lot on their plate that they navigate so well on a daily basis. One thing I have noticed many of my mom friends needing in their life is a little encouragement for the days when life is hard and there work goes un-seen. I love Instagram for this. There are so many encouraging profiles to give mom's that little recognition and boost on tough days.
Some of my favorites are:
- Carolina- at encouragingmommyhood3
- Amy- at amybinharmony
- Katie- at kt.gonzales
- Emily- at honestlyemilyrose
I hope you can check them out and add a little encouragement in your life!
Katie
